Our Most Popular Leadership Advice of the Year

Tis the season for looking back over the past year and … making lists!

The Insightful Leader didn’t want to be left out of this time-honored tradition, so we’re taking a look at our most popular newsletters of the past year. Thank you all for reading in 2022, and best wishes for 2023!

The Insightful Leader’s Best of 2022 List

I’m not going to claim that we scooped Time magazine, which recently named Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as Person of the Year. But we were on the case in March, when we discussed What Makes Zelensky Such a Strong Leader? This was, far and away, our most popular piece of the year.

Several of your other favorites fall squarely into the category of advice to help you lead others.

You got advice on How to Engage a Disengaged Employee and advice on 3 Skills to Look for in New Managers. You heard about some counterintuitive research findings in I (Don’t) Feel Your Pain to help you become a more empathetic leader, and similarly, you learned How to Encourage Resilience in Your Employees. And you heard from several of our professors discussing their research and insights on How to Be a Better Mentor.

Other favorites focused on how you can better manage your own career.

You got advice on How to Project Confidence Even When You’re Feeling Unsure and, in the same vein, some thoughts on How to Be Bold (without Being a Jerk). Additionally, if you’re thinking about being really bold and quitting your job, you got this advice: Before You Quit, Ask Yourself These Questions.

As always, we would love to hear from you about what you’d like to read about in 2023. If you have a leadership or career question for our faculty, please let us know at insight@kellogg.northwestern.edu.
